Brasshouse Birmingham

In August 1781, building work began on this site for Birmingham's first Brass House, or foundry.<br><br>-It was a breakthrough that gave the city its own supply of brass - independant of the price-fixing cartel of manufacturers in Staffordshire and importers of Bristol.<br><br>-The impact of the local foundry not only dropped the price of brass by £29 a ton it also developed a reputation for Birmingham as the UK centre for manufacturing brassware.<br><br>-The new Brasshouse on Broad Street was no less revolutionary.<br><br>-Created inside what is a listed building , this development provided a sophisticated and stylish meeting place worthy of any European City.<br><br>-And when the International Convention Centre opened its doors to the world in 1991, the Brasshouse on Broad Street was already there, only yards away.<br><br>-Built on the site of an enterprice that made Birmingham famous, the Brasshouse is once more helping to enhance the city's international reputation.
