Socceroos Group D Schedule (AEST)

Australia are in Group D alongside the USA, Turkey and Paraguay. The group stage fixtures, converted to Sydney time:

Match Date Kick-off (AEST) Venue
Australia 2-0 Turkey Saturday 14 June 2:00pm Vancouver
Australia vs USA Friday 20 June 5:00am Seattle
Australia vs Paraguay Thursday 26 June 12:00pm Santa Clara

The opener against Turkey is done and dusted. A 2-0 win. That USA match on 20 June is the tricky one for pub planning: 5am AEST means setting the alarm painfully early. The good news is that plenty of Sydney pubs confirmed early doors for every Socceroos fixture. The Paraguay match at midday on 26 June is much friendlier. Lunch and a schooner, sorted.

Sydney Suburb by Suburb: Where to Watch

Sydney is a city of suburbs, and the pub culture shifts from one postcode to the next. Here is a quick guide to help you pick the right spot.

Area Vibe Best for
CBD / Darling Harbour Big screens, waterfront venues, Tumbalong Park fan zone Groups, big-match atmosphere, walk-ins
Surry Hills Inner-city pub heartland, craft beer, Crown Street Schooner deals, relaxed crowd, football regulars
Newtown / Inner West Local pub culture, King Street, affordable pints Locals, no-fuss atmosphere, walk-in friendly
Circular Quay / The Rocks Tourist-friendly, harbour views, big-screen setups Visitors, scenic watch parties
Bondi / Eastern Suburbs Beach suburb pubs, backpacker energy Morning matches with ocean air, international crowd
Parramatta / Western Sydney Growing sports bar scene, multicultural football communities Die-hard supporters, strong ethnic community groups

The CBD is the obvious starting point. Darling Harbour has the Tumbalong Park fan zone with a giant screen running throughout the tournament, plus a heavy concentration of sports pubs within walking distance. If you want guaranteed atmosphere for a Socceroos match, this is the safest bet.

Surry Hills is where the football crowd drinks on a normal weekend, and that carries over to tournament time. Pubs around Crown Street are running schooner specials for Socceroos games. The rooms are smaller than the CBD venues, so the noise level per square metre is higher. Good thing.

Newtown and the Inner West are the budget-friendly option. King Street has pubs that open early for morning kick-offs without charging a booking fee or enforcing a minimum spend. The atmosphere is local and loud.

Bondi is a different story. Morning matches suit the eastern suburbs perfectly. Walk down from the beach at 5am, find a pub already open, watch the Socceroos with a mix of locals and backpackers. There is something about a sunrise kick-off near the coast that makes a group stage game feel like an occasion.

Parramatta and Western Sydney have the strongest multicultural football communities in the city. Turkish, Greek, Lebanese, Croatian supporters all have their own networks out west. For the Australia vs Turkey and Australia vs USA matches, expect the pubs in this part of Sydney to carry a different kind of intensity.

TV Coverage and Kick-off Times

SBS has exclusive Australian broadcast rights for the entire FIFA World Cup 2026. All 104 matches air live and free across SBS, SBS Viceland and SBS On Demand (the free streaming platform). No subscription is needed anywhere. Optus Sport does not hold World Cup rights this time around.

The time zone challenge is real. The tournament is hosted across the USA, Mexico and Canada, which puts most AEST kick-offs in uncomfortable territory:

  • 3am to 6am AEST: Early morning fixtures from US East Coast venues
  • 5am to 8am AEST: The bulk of the schedule. Alarm clock territory.
  • 10am to 12pm AEST: Late morning, more manageable
  • 2pm to 4pm AEST: Afternoon games from US West Coast venues (the friendly slots)

Sixty-nine of the 104 matches kick off before 10am AEST. This is a breakfast World Cup. The pubs that commit to early openings will be the ones worth knowing about. Use FANZO to filter specifically for venues confirming pre-dawn and early morning hours.

For the knockout rounds, expect similar patterns. A semi-final or final kicking off at 9am or 10am on a Sunday morning is peak pub viewing in Sydney. Those sessions fill up fast.

Tumbalong Park Fan Zone

The Tumbalong Park fan zone at Darling Harbour runs for the duration of the tournament. Giant screen, food trucks, free entry. It is the closest thing Sydney gets to a European-style public viewing area. For Socceroos group matches, expect thousands of people. For neutrals, it is more relaxed but still a solid option if you want the outdoor big-screen experience without committing to a pub.

The fan zone works well as a backup plan too. If your preferred pub is full, Tumbalong Park is a short walk from most CBD venues.
