Perth Suburb by Suburb: Where to Watch the World Cup

Perth supporters have a clear edge over the east coast for this tournament. AWST (UTC+8) puts most kick-offs between 1am and 2pm, which means proper morning and lunchtime football instead of the 3am and 5am starts that Sydney and Melbourne are dealing with. The WA State Government has also confirmed extended trading hours for licensed venues during the World Cup, so pubs can stay open for late and overnight fixtures.

Here is how the city breaks down on match days.

Suburb Vibe Best for
Northbridge Main nightlife strip, official fan zone at the Piazza, packed atmosphere Big Socceroos nights, group viewing, walk-in options
Fremantle Port city character, independent pubs, strong multicultural football culture Italian, Croatian and local supporters, South Terrace atmosphere
Leederville Suburban pub strip on Oxford Street, relaxed feel Morning kick-offs with brunch, smaller crowds
CBD Central sports bars around Murray and Hay Streets After-work fixtures, convenient access
Subiaco Near HBF Park, deep AFL pub culture that crosses over to football Pub regulars, reliable big-screen setups
Victoria Park Growing bar scene along Albany Highway Locals, quieter alternative, food-focused venues

Northbridge is where the city gathers for major football. The Piazza fan zone, run by the City of Perth, features a giant screen under marquee shelter with bean bags, family activities and security for Socceroos matches. Even if you are not watching at the fan zone, the surrounding pubs fill up fast on match days. Get there early for any Socceroos fixture.

Fremantle has its own football identity. The Italian and Croatian communities around South Terrace (the "Cappuccino Strip") have been watching World Cups together for decades. If you want authentic atmosphere with a multicultural edge, Freo is the pick. Pubs here tend to be independently run and vocal.

Leederville works well for the morning kick-offs. Oxford Street pubs are opening early for the tournament, and the suburb has a relaxed brunch culture that pairs well with a 10am AWST game. Victoria Park offers a similar feel along Albany Highway, with newer bars adding screens for the World Cup.
