On this page you'll find some of the best places to watch live sport down under.

Fat Freddy's Beach Bar & Diner: "Broadbeach's home for sport"

13 screens, big games and one massive atmosphere. Short of watching the game at the live stadium, heading down to one of Australia’s best sports bars is definitely the quintessence of Aussie culture. It’s hard to imagine life down under without watching the game live with your mates at your favourite bar and sharing a bite to eat with some bevys too.

That’s why sports fans love Fat Freddy’s Beach Bar & Diner.

Fat Freddy’s Beach Bar & Diner is located in the heart of Broadbeach and has become a local favourite on the Gold Coast. Patrons come to this Sports Bar to watch live sport as part of a community with mates and other supporters.

“We help our customers create some amazing memories in our venue which is such a great feeling”, says the venue manager, Izaac Robertson, “We’re a fast paced American themed sports bar with no regrets! You won’t miss a beat, with every seat in the house within view of one of our big screens playing all the live sports”.

Fat Freddy’s has every fox sports channel as well as ESPN and free to air. Each screen simultaneously streams live sport from around the globe, making sure the bar will erupt whenever tries are scored, goals are kicked and hoops are dunked.

“Fat Freddy’s has all the action and is the home of sport in Broadbeach”, says Robertson. “Most of our punters come to watch the NRL and AFL, as well as Motorsports, the UFC and Boxing Main Event fights”. Sport is engrained in all aspects of the venue and creating unforgettable sporting memories for their patrons is a huge focus.

Robertson describes his favourite in-venue sporting moment as, “watching our CEO, Ben Walsh, driving the Fat Freddy’s SuperUte down in Tasmania for the Supercars Championship series was a big one for us. To have our brand name on the big screens was a fantastic feeling, and having our customers kick back and watch the action too was even better!”

It’s a no-brainer why sports fans choose Fat Freddy’s. Robertson says, “we love building up a big rapport with our locals and going out of our way to look after them, they’re part of what keeps us going as a business”. The friendly staff aim to create an exciting atmosphere and enhance the experience of every game so all patrons feel part of the action. “Our staff are always welcoming and full of banter, and so are our locals. Very harmonious if you ask me!”, says Robertson.

When you park yourself inside this American-style sports bar be ready to expect an electric atmosphere dialled up by great specials, live music, outrageously top value happy hours, karaoke, meat tray raffles, a luxury gaming lounge and trivia nights. Robertson says, “Having a free membership with goodies and giveaways across the week also helps attract a lot of people who quickly become regulars for us”.

Fat Freddy’s have absolutely nailed the American Sports Bar theme with a coastal spin - it is only a few drop kicks away from the beach after all. Imagine luxe dark leather banquette booths and stools. There’s a winding timber bar top where sports fans gravitate towards with a row of TV’s capturing the local and international games. There is an incredible range of bourbon, ryes and whiskeys on display along the mirror-lined back bar. Punchy rock and electro music from the 70s, 80s and 90s fills the hangout and displayed on the main wall are framed pictures of controversial celebrities called the ‘wall of infamy’. Floor-to-ceiling glass bi-fold doors let that glorious Gold Coast sun shine through which leads to an extensive alfresco at the front of the building.

With a reinvented, modernised take on the classic American diner experience you bet the food is outrageously good too. The menu starts with beer-bites like their moreish BBQ spiced popcorn chicken, southern fried cauliflower and fried chicken wings, but we’d recommend saving room for their burgers and street eats. Their Chicago-style Street Dog is definitely a local favourite along with their BBQ Pork Ribs (you can even order a 1kg serving!). Their Big Kahuna Burger is another winner - a wagyu beef brisket patty with hickory bacon, shallots, dill pickle, curly fries and American cheese drizzled in their mouth watering smokey BBQ sauce, liquid cheese and cheesy gravy… yes please!

“We imbue a culture of fast times and big eats with boozy shakes, massive burgers and an amazing list of pop culture inspired cocktails”, Robertson says. On the drinks front, you’ll be double taking the cocktails menu with their ‘Don King’, ‘Totally Trump’ and ‘Monica Lewinsky’ spiked sodas plus one of their best selling shakes, the “Pablo Escabar”. There is a more than generous list of whisky to choose from, mainly imported from American distilleries. There’s a permanent selection of beers featuring a handpicked selection from local and international breweries. There are always 10 rotating tap beers on any day and a long list of wine, so why would you pick anywhere else?

There are certainly no regrets when you visit Fat Freddy’s. For sport enthusiasts like yourself, what’s not to love? We know you’ll fit right in with their infectiously energetic crowd as the staff and other patrons are huge sport fans too. Fat Freddy’s has got you covered with a multitude of screens so you won’t miss a beat and can still enjoy their banging food and drinks. So grab yourself a seat at this Gold Coast favourite and let Fat Freddy’s Beach Bar & Diner serve you up some seriously good times.
